New LIfe Energy

This past weekend there was a birth in our extended family.  This event has proven to effect me is a way I was not too sure I would have expected.  I was on my way home when this beautiful soul came into our lives and Paul called to tell me on the way.  My first thought was a sense of excitement and longing for that feeling of post birth.  Having just had Liliana those feelings are fresh in my mind.  Tell gave me the information that he had and knowing Midwives and births I knew that since she was getting the 3 hour discharge that she had a great birth and that she and baby must have been doing great.  Knowing this I felt so connected and calmed.
When I got home I told Paul that I knew that Samuel and Lilian would not be our only children, that I still wanted more. He too felt the same way, that hearing of the birth reminded him of wanting to have this experience again.
I then came to the realization that I wanted to be a part of birth and energy that it brings to life and so after some talking and inner reflection I have decided to look into the Doula training.  I want to have a role in birthing and I want to continue my career are a pottery and mother and my continued longing to be connected to the earth.
Each and everyday I am amazed at how the birth of your children can change and open you up to the endless possibilities in your life.   When I opened myself up to the earth for the birth of my children I opened up a whole new chapter in my life.

Weekend Sale Moment

This weekend was the Markham Home for the Holidays Christmas Show.  It was amazing!  I had a great show and it was one of the most successful to date!  It was so exciting to make back my money on the first day and then the next two days are all money in my little pocket!

While sales are a great it is also about the community of people that are there as well.  I was able to be next to friends.  There was lots of laughs and support all weekend.  I know that I am becoming a part of this community but these weekends just remind me that I am doing what I was meant to be and that I have a place and part here!

This too will Pass

I am still here and trying to find a moment in each day in which I am able to breathe and know that everything will settle down again.  That this time of year is super busy with the Christmas Shows and soon I will be creating Holiday gifts for all those loved ones in my life rather than creating for sale.

I am starting my list and hoping that I can get everything in time.  I am sure I will be sewing and knitting items right up until the night before!!

Isn't that the way with us creatives.  Figuring we can make something over everyone and in time we don't have.

But we love to create!!

Yarn Bowl Success

Today I wanted to share with you this great success that I have been having here at the studio.  Just after Christmas last year I decided to try and create yarn bowls.  I had seen a picture online and thought that I could create something similar.  It began mainly as a way to support my very large knitting habit, as I was doing trade for the yarn bowls and yarn at my local knitting shop Unwind Yarn House.  They started doing very well at the store and there was many reorders.  I then decided to sell them at some local shows as well and they were also a huge hit.  I added them to my Etsy shop and I have been selling them like crazy.  Today I received an order from Norway!  Does this mean I am an international success?  Regardless who knew that this little project would be such a hit!

It is exciting when something that you have created is doing so well.  This is something that can be difficult in pottery as may of the things that I make are very functional and for many they do not see that value in a handmade mug or bowl, rather thinking that they can buy a whole set for the same price at a big box store.  As a potter you have to remind yourself that this has nothing to do with you and what you create but rather the society that we live in.  With each purchase that I make of handmade items I hope that I am bring about small change.

Halloween 09

This was our first real halloween.  We had dressed up before but this year we went out.  Sam was super cute unsure at first what was going on.  He knew to be excited as we all were and so therefore something  great was going to happen.  At the first house he walked up, knocked, said that rehearsed lines of trick or treat and when the lady asked if he wanted Play Dough or Popcorn he in a state of confusion said that no he wanted trick or treat.

Later on when he was carrying his small bag full of treats he looked up at us with a huge smile on his face and said that he loved this trick or treating.  A beautiful moment I will remember.
